Registration Extension and a Surprise Post!

Hello SHCC-ers! We are extending the registration until October 5th. The weekend following the background for the images and your partners will be sent to you via email/preferred method of contact, and you will have until Halloween, October 31st to turn your entries in! (Partners will also be posted here publically for reference, but your contact information will only be privately given). They will be posted on Halloween. For an example, fellow illustrator, all-around cool guy and my neato friend Shane McDermott and I did Hellboy and Castiel from Supernatural, posted below!
Remember, you must pick a hero/heroine of your choice (or villian/villianess!) and you will get paired with someone else at random. You will be put in contact with your partner, and you two will dress your character dressed as the others at a Halloween party! It would be a good idea to stay in contact with each other, and try and make sure your two creations mesh well at the end! Have fun with it and we can't wait to see what everyone does!

Harley Quinn

Blogger does not seem to want to allow me to upload photos, so they have all been uploaded to the facebook account, HERE. (Or search Superhero Coco on facebook!) Sorry about that!

July-August Theme

In light of Harley's less-than-logical redesign, she is the new theme to re-open SHCC!

I don't think there will be an specific idea to follow in redesigning her...I'm pretty sure ANYTHING is better than the redesign she was given, so have fun with it and do anything you want! I think she is a character that will be easy to explore and recreate with an imaginative twist.

Submissions will be due by August 31st, 2011~ so submit soon! Mail your images to 23spades@gmail.com!

Aquaman!

Here are the entries received for the Aquaman in a different time/culture theme!

Joel Priddy
Ye Olde Aquaman

Sillof
Steampunk Aquaman

Viking Aquaman by Arlen.

Zephan Osiris

David J. Cutler
-Aquagent, the Aquaman of Victorian England! I love Aquaman and I figured the easiest way to make him seem more formidable was to take him back to a time before man could fly, when the waterways and trade routes were extremely important and constantly under siege by pirates and bandits and what have you. Aquagent protects the ships on the oceans as well as guarding the lost city of Atlantis--a drowned city rich in treasure and destructive magics--from his half brother, the rogue admiral Ocean Master, and the mad-inventor turned deep sea plunderer Black Manta. I spent way too much time thinking this out.

Adam Day

Kyle Frink
This is a picture of the 1900th century French explore turned environmentalist; Antoine Curie.

Jared Konopitski

Aaron Radney
Born to the king of Atlantis and a polynesian mother the young aquaman spent his early childhood beneath the surface in Atlantis. Then a freak tragedy orchestrated by an enemy of the royal family wrecked h is home and separated him from his family. Stranded, he floated to the surface and found himself among his mother's family who recognized him and took him in. As he grew people were a bit weary of the pale skin he inherited from his Atlantean father but the young Aquaman proved to be a formidable warrior among his people and as an adult seeks to overthrow the usurper in his kingdom beneath the waves while he balances living in the surface and undersea worlds.

Josh Lynch

Warren Newsom

Tomas Overbai

Seni Oyewole

Alex H. Mitchell

Whew! If any links were missed or names misspelled, please let us know by e-mailing 23spades@gmail.com. I tried my best to use the shorter descriptions, and I did not post the Aquamen that were not fitting to the theme (though they were neat to look at!)

The next theme will be posted soon! Thanks again for your participation!

Superhero Theater Posters

Here are the entries received for the Superhero Theater Poster theme!

Whitney Hubbard

Kyle Frink

Seni Oyewole
I chose Clint and Anne because I thought they would've been able to pull it off. This would've been late '50s because of how popular science fiction films were around those times.

Warren Newsom
Empire Studios presents the most ridiculously fantastic movie of 1948, Vincent Minelli’s “Breakfast with Mephisto.” It’s the tale of a handsome, young costumed vigilante (as played by the most athletic actor of his era – Gene Kelly) and his beautiful wife (the breathtaking Rita Hayworth), and the terrible deal they get from – er… the terrible deal they make with the Devil (as embodied by the unimaginable Joe Quesada).

You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll wonder the hell why!

Jeremy Todd

The next theme (which might be a surprise event...) will be posted soon! Sorry for the lag in posts, school starting up again and break and finals really put us behind. We're doing our best to stay on top of things! See you soon!

Scarlet Witch in Literature

I was sad to see the lack of submissions this round--but still liking the results! If anyone would like to have more suggestions for who to do next/themes to do, please post them in the comments!

Joel Priddy's Scarlet Witch:

Juan Antonio Rodrÿffffedguez Armas' Scarlet Witch:

Urganda la Desconocida (Urganda the Unknown or Unrecognized) a character of Amadis of Gaul, the most important Spanish chivalric romance. She is a sorceress with magical powers and a talent for prophecy who favour knight errant Amadis de Gaula Also is appeared in Don Quixote as secondary character.

She was a witch and her name sound like the name of Scarlett Witch, (I know it´s a terrible joke)

Whitney Hubbard's Scarlet Witch:

I went with Medea as my literary inspiration. I picked the character Medea because both she and the Scarlet Witch had these really tragic stories involving their children being killed. Medea actually killed her own children as revenge against her husband Jason, and depending on the verison of the story you read, she may or may not have fed them to Jason too. Which is disgusting.

Alex Getts' Scarlet Witch:

The first thing I thought of when I read the "literature" theme was Breakfast at Tiffany's. Of course, I think the film is more well-known than the novella, so I used Audrey Hepburn as my template when redesigning the Scarlet Witch as a Holly Golightly-esque figure, switching the trademark black for the Witch's signature color.

The next hero and theme will be announced sometime tomorrow or Tuesday, December 6th or 7th. We will still be accepting Scarlet Witches whenever you are finished with them, so send them to 23spades@gmail.com whenever possible, and don't forget to post suggestions in the comments!

The next hero is...

The theme for this round is Literature. The challenge is to place her in a book--what would she be like in Harry Potter? Lord of the Rings? Ok...those are really lame generic examples, but I'm having trouble thinking of any on the spot here. But you get the idea! Be creative!

We're giving three weeks this time, so she is due by 12/5/10 so make sure to get them into 23spades@gmail.com before the fifth!

The next heroes are...

The theme for this duo is Medievil. You can feel free to redesign only one of the two if you wish, but doing them together is preferred. Here's the Wikipedia page for help.

They are due by 11/14/10 so make sure to get them into 23spades@gmail.com before the fourteenth!
